Princess For a Day
Mum had been longing to do this for years. It was a gorgeous Saturday in Palmerston North, and the sun had a subtle beam, spreading all around the Esplanade.
We were with Bernadette Peters who would be taking our family photos. All of us were dressed in accents of blue. My sister Sarah and I both were charming in our spring themed gowns.
We walked alongside sophisticated structures, like spotted trees standing together like soldiers, tree trunks trailing through the gardens, and tiny flowers made for fairies. Once in awhile we would find a unique backdrop and huddle together as she took photos.
I felt confident in my gown, with my hair flowing around my shoulders, like a princess. There was a certain elegance that hung in the air, and everything was really beautiful, because it was spring.
I enjoyed spending quality time with my family, and having someone there to capture our experience, so that we might never forget that special day.

Coutts Family Coat Of Arms
This term, our integrated unit is about culture. For our homework this week (Week 1), we did a Family Coat Of Arms. I did the Coutts’ Family Coat Of Arms, and on the way, I learnt about heraldry. Firstly, I chose a gold shield because on a website called www.familytreesandcrests.com a gold shield meant understanding, respect, virtue and majestic generosity. My first symbol represents giving, and that is a big value in our family. For us Coutts', it's not about giving presents wrapped up in ribbons and bows, but more about giving time and effort to something. The next symbol is the New Zealand Flag. I chose the NZ flag because I was born in the capital of New Zealand, and my siblings and Mum were born in NZ too. My third symbol represents spending time together with my family. That is an important value to us, for example, we visit our grandparents every Sunday, normally accompanied with baking or food. Last but definitely not least, the symbol of two people shaking hands. This is representing being friendly and kind to people. This is the most treasured value, because it so hugely important for us to have a kind and welcoming approach to people. The Coutts motto is to work hard and be kind. This is because when you work hard and be kind, you can achieve great things. I really enjoyed this week’s homework task, and I definitely am interested to learn more around heraldry in the future.

Tinkercad
On Thursday the 28th of July and Friday the 29th of July we (Lava) learned how to use Tinkercad, which is a 3D drawing device. We were instructed to make an account, on AutoDesk Project Ignite which is like google classrooms, where the teacher can view and aid your learning. It reminded me a bit of Minecraft, and also looked like a builders\architects tool. However, despite its confusing methods, it's a fun way to make a scale drawing of a model of our structure. We started with tutorials to show us how to use the programme, but soon we will be making our models. Some great parts of this are: you can see your structure from many different angles, and you can easily edit your design. For example, you can change colour, add shapes, and imprint letters. I also learned that once we have completed our models, we have the capacity to print them in 3D. It was so much fun and I am looking forward to using it more regularly in the future.
